The 308 effect
The 308 in Bordeaux is a place where we try to give life to contemporary architectural design, which questions, seeks, reflects and tries in many different ways to shape the world to be habitable and sustainable. We also perform experiments. And concrete ones at that. Shared values with Texaa. The exhibition hall of New Aquitaine’s Maison de l’Architecture housed inside a former electrical substation – a concrete chamber with a ceiling nearly four metres high – needed to have its acoustics improved for better user comfort. With a catch: the wall surfaces needed to be left as unencumbered as possible to avoid detracting from the visual impact of the artworks on display. It was an ideal opportunity to work as innovation partners and test in real-life conditions a new solution developed in the Texaa workshop, located in Gradignan outside Bordeaux. Accordingly, around twenty sound-absorbing cushions with wooden frames covered with a linen version of Texaa’s Aeria fabric, were installed above the ceiling grid used to suspend lighting and decorative items for the exhibitions. A prototype project featuring a concrete application of one of the R&D goals defined by Texaa’s environmental policies: using more biosourced raw materials in its products, in this case a linen fabric and wooden frames.
